RESIDENTS facing heavy construction work along the light rail route have been given an early Christmas present from the state government — $130 Sony noise cancelling headphones.
Since work began on the CBD and South East light rail route, residents and businesses have consistently reported facing high levels of noise due to underground and invasive construction.
Now ALTRAC — the consortium managing the project on behalf of Transport for NSW — has started handing out Sony noise cancelling headphones worth $130 to mitigate the impact of the project.
“I think it is one of the most embarrassing solutions I have ever heard, it’s comical, it’s another episode of ‘Yes Minister’,” City of Sydney Sydney Matters councillor Angela Vithoulkas said..
Sleeping with the headphones on was asking to “sleeping with a head full of rollers,” she said.
Instead of paying for headphones the state government should be paying for double glazing for residents, Cr Vithoulkas said.
