MEDIA RELEASE: Small business ignored once again in calls for the de-amalgamation of the City of Sydney Council

Reports that the NSW Shooters and Fishers Party would support the de-amalgamation of the City of Sydney Council in Parliament, based on suggestions contained in Liberal Councillor Christine Forster’s IPART submission, provides a concerning insight into the clear lack of understanding about the role that small business plays in making the City of Sydney a vibrant and thriving area.

‘Comments in today’s Daily Telegraph totally ignore the role of the 21,500 separate business establishments located within the City.  While it’s true that a large number of top 500 companies are located in the CBD, there are also thousands of small businesses that are an integral part of the local economy and community’.

‘The simplistic approach that sets up a residents versus business argument overlooks the fact that there are thousands of small businesses that are integrated into the fabric of the community.  They are the start-ups, cafes, retail outlets, service providers, etc., that attract people to the local government area and provide the jobs and economic contributions.  They must not be overlooked and should never be so easily discounted’, Councillor Vithoulkas said.
