WALSH BAY SUBURB NAMING ISSUE (S103147)

  1. By Councillor Vithoulkas

Question:

The local community of The Rocks, Millers Point, Dawes Point and Walsh Bay have been the subject of great upheaval and distress in recent times with such matters like potential sale of public housing, the changing face of Barangaroo, the loss of the local Doctor and two approaches to Council to support the re-naming of parts of Dawes Point and Millers Point as a new suburb Walsh Bay. This re-naming matter has not been resolved.

At Council’s request, the City hosted a public workshop on Wednesday 16 October 2013 to discuss the Walsh Bay suburb naming issue. Around 65 people attended the meeting which was held at the Abraham Mott Hall. Those attending were unable to come up with an agreed position on this issue.

The City has advised that it will consider options and get back to Council with suggestions.

  1. Can the City please provide an update on this matter and what options are currently being considered?
  1. Will the City canvass further submissions from the community prior to making suggestions to Council?
